Product description: Kohaku Obi (JRW) - Red/White Belt

Red and White Cotton Belt

Theoretically reserved for teachers from the 6th to the 8th Dan, the white and red Judo belt is also used in traditional Jujutsu.

100% cotton, this model is similar in its composition to black belts, made of a white cotton core and a cotton outer layer alternately red and white. In terms of rigidity, this KuSakura belt is comparable to the classic black belt model JOG, thick, and with 16 rows of stitching.

The white/red sections have a length of 20 cm. There are specific rules on the length of these sections, especially in Europe but not in Japan. Therefore, this model is only available in its Japanese version, with sections of 20 cm. For this reason, this belt can not be manufactured in half-sizes, that would shorten the end sections in an irregular manner.

Optionally with this KuSakura belt we offer a storage or gift box from either silver cardboard or a wood called Kiri. The Kiri is a traditional light-weight wood, often used in ancient times for the conservation of precious objects because of its characteristics to absorb humidity and resist fire.

  • Core: 100% cotton
  • Outer layer: 100% cotton
  • Width: 4.5 cm
  • Stitching: 16 lines of stitching
  • Embroidery type: integrated and non-integrated
  • Availability: within 7 to 10 days

Choosing your size

At the top right of every belt page, there is a button "size table" and a button "IJF Regulations and body" for more information concerning these topics.

  • Ells you the recommended size according to your waistline, also taking into account the thickness of the belt (and its knot).
  • IJF regulations / measuring: Explanation of the international standards of the federation as well as how to take measurements.

About the different embroidery types

KuSakura proposes two types of embroidery for black belts: integrated and non-integrated embroideries. Non-integrated embroideries are offered on all belts, whereas integrated embroideries are only possible on black belts except the IJF models.

Non-integrated embroideries (from $9): are performed after the manufacture of the belt, which means that the embroidery is on top of the lines of stitchings of the belt and visible on the reverse side, too. Non-integrated embroideries are less durable than integrated embroideries but less expensive, because they are easy and fast to achieve.

Integrated embroideries (from $13): This type of embroidery is made on the outer layer of the belt, before the belt is manufactured. The lines of stitching of the belt are sewn on top of the embroidery and the embroidery is invisible on the reverse side. This type of embroidery is more expensive, because it is much more time consuming and difficult to achieve a good (centered and straight-lined) result. Because the belt is in this case made to order, integrated embroideries cause a delay of 3 weeks.

* It is not possible to make an integrated embroidery on one and a non-integrated embroidery on the other end.

Non-Integrated Embroidery

About embroideries

All embroideries are realized on a high-end professional machine of the brand Barudan. A non-integrated embroidery delays the shipping by 3 days and an integrated embroidery by 3 weeks.

The embroideries have an average size of 2.5 cm per character for Japanese characters and English capital letters and 1.5 to 2 cm for English lowercase letters.

We offer embroideries on one end or both ends of the belt. If you would like an embroidery at a different spot, thank you for contacting us for a quotation. *However, given the little space on a belt, it is not possible to embroider e.g. a logo.

1 - Embroidery Content

By default, we offer to embroider your first and/or your family name and further any other word or expression of maximally two words.
It is necessary to choose the corresponding option to the desired embroidery for that the billing is correct. Either $9 for a name or $17 for a first AND family name or all other embroideries consisting of maximally 2 words.

  • First OR family name: e.g. Marc, John, Smith, Miller, etc.
In the case of a compound name : Thank you for choosing the option "First AND Family name". We refuse to embroider a compound name PLUS family because of their length and complexity.
  • First AND Family name : e.g. Marc Smith, John Miller, Claude. C, Jack B. etc. (We do not recommend the combination of a compound name PLUS family name, to avoid embroideries that are too long.)
  • Initials : MD, CD, etc. written in English (capital or cursive letters) only ! (Initials do not exist in Japanese.)
  • Other word : This might be the name of your Dojo or any common word such as "Judo" or "Jujutsu". Note that this option is limited to maximally 2 words.

Name + initial = 2 names. If the requested embroidery content differs from the number of word option, your embroidery will be reduced to what has been paid.

2 - Languages and fonts

It is possible to embroider in Japanese as well as in English. In the case of an embroidery in Japanese, the translation is free. You simply enter your name in English and then choose the font "Japanese - Kaishotai" or "Japanese - Gyoshotai"

  • In Japanese : vertical only, classic font Kaishotai or *Gyoshotai. (*non-integrated only)
  • In English: vertical or horizontal
  • In English cursive: horizontal only
  • Note : Initials do not exist in Japanese. All initial embroideries are automatically embroidered in English.
3 - Orientation of the embroidery

All belt embroideries can either be made vertically or horizontally, except for English cursive letters, that of course are always horizontal.
* unless otherwise stated, all horizontal embroideries are embroidered so that the brand logo is worn on the right side (tied belt).

Japanese characters are usually embroidered vertically. Regarding English capital letters, the choice is yours.

4 - Content

This field is required. This is the embroidery content. This field must contain ONLY the desired content (maximally 30 characters).

5 - Colors

You can choose of 20 different colors for your embroideries.
Note that for quality reasons the colors silver and gold are not shiny/metallic as for the black belt integrated embroideries.

6 - Files or additional comments/instructions

In the field "other instructions" you can give us more details regarding the embroidery content and its realization.

Finally, you can upload a picture of the desired embroidery. Note that in many cases there are several possible variations for the name transcription in Japanese. We will not accept any claims regarding name transcriptions in Japanese if no further/exact instructions were given.

Grade (Dan) line embroidery

For this type of embroidery, it is necessary to contact us prior to ordering to determine together all details. You can visit the page embroidery information for more information before contacting us.

About the belt sizing

Size table
  • The size of the belt is calculated using the formula waist size x 2 + 90~100 cm.
This formula provides a length of about 20 cm for each end once the belt is knotted.
  • We recommend choosing a 0.5 size larger for very thick belts because the knott will be bigger. The same goes for extra large/wide belts (width 4.7 cm instead of 4.5 cm).
  • The belts shrink about 10 cm when first washed, but will stretch again when used and regain their original length.
  • You can order every belt model customized, simply contact us for a quote.

Usual standards in local competition

  • The "local" standards are similar to the IJF regulations, however, the controls are generally more flexible and the belts may be labeled (embroidered) on both ends without particular limitations.
  • Belt 100% cotton.
  • Width between 4 and 4.5 cm.
  • Thickness between 4 or 5 mm.
  • The belt must be long enough to leave at least 20 cm (maximally 30 cm) on each end once knotted.

About the measuring

  • - Waist circumference must be taken over the jacket.
  • - Be sure to take into account the type of knot you want to make. (If you want to tie an extra thick belt with a "double knot" choose 0.5 size larger.)
  • - The belts will shrink about 5 cm. (approx. 10 cm in the beginning, but will be stretched again when used).
